Le Chéile’s submission to the Youth Justice Strategy Review
Le Chéile Mentoring has submitted its response to the new draft Youth Justice Strategy today. You can read our response here.
The Department of Justice and Equality has been conducting a public consultation for the past few weeks in order to gather feedback on how the justice system should engage with young people who are at risk of becoming involved in crime.
As part of the consultation, there has been an open, online survey for members of the public to give their opinions, as well as a call for written submissions. Le Chéile welcomed this consultation process and were pleased to have an opportunity to contribute.
Our submission is informed by a consultation with young people on their experience of youth justice, our experience in working with hundreds of young people and their parents/carers over the last fifteen years, as well as evidence informed practice.
We look forward to the establishment of an ambitious new Youth Justice Strategy that addresses the causes of youth offending, as well as improves outcomes for young people.
