Youth and Parent Mentors Needed
Your Time, Your Support, Your Kindness has the ability to change lives!
Le Chéile Mentoring provides a one-to-one mentoring service for young people referred by the Probation Service and An Garda Síochána and for parents referred by the Probation Service, An Garda Síochána and Oberstown Children Detention Campus.
Who we’re looking for?
We are looking to recruit volunteer youth mentors over the age of 21 from across Limerick, Clare, and Meath. We are also looking for volunteer parent mentors over the age of 25 from across Dublin, Limerick, Clare, and Meath.
Potential volunteers should have a passion to make a difference in their community and a commitment to being a personable, positive and reliable Mentor. The young people and parents referred to us come from all walks of life, so we’re looking for people that can make a connection and build a positive mentoring relationship.
In Limerick, we are also specifically for anyone that is interested in taking part in Victim Impact Panel Training, as part of the Restorative Justice Project in Limerick. Please note that in order to take part in Victim Impact Panel Training, the volunteer must have been a victim of crime in the past.
Once you’re fully trained, you’ll be matched with a young person or parent and mentoring sessions will take place once a week for between one and three hours. Our volunteering is flexible, meaning you can meet during the day, evenings or weekends. These sessions aim to provide support and encouragement through doing activities together like going to the cinema, bowling, or just meeting for a bite to eat and a chat. Le Chéile covers all costs; all you give is your time.
What will you get out of it?
- Full training programme is provided
- Support of a trained Co-Ordinator
- Regular group sessions with other Mentors
- Optional ongoing training to learn new skills
- Meet new people and make new friends
- Experience that will support your personal and professional development
Our recruitment process includes an application form, interview, reference checks and Garda vetting.
