Applications Now Closed – Mentors needed in Offaly, Laois and Kildare

*The Closing Date for this has now passed. We are no longer accepting applications*

Le Chéile Mentoring provides a one-to-one mentoring service for young people who are at risk of offending and their parents. We receive referrals from the Probation Service.

Who we’re looking for?

We are looking to recruit volunteer youth mentors over the age of 21 from across Offaly, Laois and Kildare. We are also looking for volunteer parent mentors over the age of 25, also from across Offaly, Laois and Kildare.

Potential volunteers should have a passion to make a difference in their community and a commitment to being a personable, positive and reliable Mentor. The young people and parents referred to us come from all walks of life, so we’re looking for people that can make a connection and build a positive mentoring relationship.

What’s involved?

Once you’re fully trained, you’ll be matched with a young person or parent and mentoring sessions will take place once a week for between one and three hours. Our volunteering is flexible, meaning you can meet during the day, evenings or weekends. These sessions aim to provide support and encouragement through doing activities together like going to the cinema, playing pool, or just meeting for a bite to eat and a chat. Le Chéile covers all costs; all you give is your time.

What will you get out of it?

As a volunteer mentor, you have an opportunity to encourage positive change in the life of a young person or parent and to witness first-hand the impact that you can have. Additionally, you can also expect the following:

  • Full mentor induction training
  • Support of a trained Mentoring Co-ordinator
  • Regular group sessions with other Mentors
  • Optional ongoing training to learn new skills
  • Travel and activity expenses
  • Meet new people and make new friends
  • Gain experience that will support your personal and professional development

Recruitment Process.

Our recruitment process includes an application form, interview, reference checks and Garda vetting.
