Le Cheile volunteer mentors nominated as unsung heroes of community

Le Cheile was delighted to be represented at a Celebration of Heroes event, hosted by the Wheel. The event was in celebration of the unsung heroes of the community and voluntary sector. The Le Chéile Volunteer team was represented by Debra Crawly, a mentor from our Meath team and Chair of our National Volunteer Committee.

Debra became a volunteer mentor with Le Chéile Mentoring in March 2020, supporting very vulnerable young people in the community. Since then she has accompanied  three young people and one parent on their mentoring journey. Deb is chair of our National Volunteer Committee and was nominated as a representative of the over 250 volunteer mentors around Ireland.

A quote from a young person explains the difference Deb and fellow mentors make:

‘ Sometimes when you’re in a bad way, you feel like you have nobody and you kind of find it hard to express yourself and stuff like that but having a Mentor there, like someone that’s willing to listen and talk, it’s definitely a good thing ’  (Young Person who was mentored).
