Le Chéile Mentoring provides a one-to-one mentoring service for  young people and parents who are involved in the Justice System. We work closely with the Probation Service, An Garda Síochána, Oberstown Children Detention Campus, Crosscare and other agencies.

Who we’re looking for?

We are looking to recruit volunteer male and female youth mentors over the age of 21 and male and  parent mentors over the age of 25.  Our mentors come from all communities and backgrounds and while no experience is necessary, a positive, flexible, reliable approach with good communication and interpersonal skills will be an advantage. Our parents and young people come from all walks of life, so we are looking for people that can make a connection and build positive relationships.

We are especially interested in volunteers from the following areas:

Dublin: D1, D3, D5, D7, D9, D11, D13, D17.

Meath: Kells, Dunboyne, Ashbourne, Navan, Ratoath, Dunshaughlin, Trim

Drogheda

What’s involved?

Once you’re fully trained, you’ll be matched with a young person or parent and mentoring sessions will take place once a week for between one and three hours. Our volunteering is flexible, meaning you can meet during the day, evenings or weekends. These sessions aim to provide support and encouragement through doing activities together. Le Chéile covers all costs; all you give is your time and your commitment.

What will you get out of it?

As a mentor, you have an opportunity to encourage positive change in the life of a young person or a parent through your kindness and support. Additionally, you can also expect the following:

  • Full induction training
  • Support of a trained Mentoring Co-ordinator
  • Regular group sessions with other Mentors
  • Optional ongoing training to learn new skills
  • Reimbursement for expenses
  • To meet new people and make new friends
  • To gain experience that will support your personal and professional development

All candidates will undergo interview, mentor induction training, reference checks, Garda Vetting and/or Overseas vetting.
